Speaking at the General Assembly, Vilnius, 2023

I learned leadership in two worlds that rarely meet.

One was the street. I started as an activist in a movement that helped bring down a dictator, then spent years working alongside the people who lead under the most extreme uncertainty there is — founders, executives, heads of state, organizers who had no playbook and had to lead anyway.

The other was the classroom. I took what I saw and made it teachable: first as a teaching fellow at Harvard, teaching two classes including one on leadership, now as a professor at Georgetown University.

So what reaches your inbox are the leadership secrets of people who sacrificed everything to fight for a higher cause, who built organizations and companies once thought impossible, who led change when no one else saw hope — people whose stories ended up in books and films. And the science that explains why it works.
